Polls and poll discussions go here.

February plans, old poll results, new polls up!

Hey again. So the old polls are done and two new polls are up now! One polls asks how you feel about established characters changing outfits. The second poll asks if I should take a break from main story arcs after RTL is done (likely in about 3-5 more sets) and make some random other image and/or story sets instead, work on a game, attempt some complex animation, or if I should just start the next story arc. My patrons have seen the special patreon early previews from a while back for two of the upcoming characters in the next story arc, (there will be others though) so they may have some better insight here but it is hard to say. Also, for those of you that actually read this far into the paragraphs here, RTL 6 is also scheduled for a free release this month sometime; I am not going to say when exactly so just keep checking back for that. There will likely be another Patreon-exclusive poll in the coming months, possibly relating to what to do when RTL is done. I have no idea when exactly this will be yet. As for the results from the last polls, people clearly want me to do the two month plan; and most people seem to prefer story sets and animations, which is fine. Games were only two votes behind animations though, and likely in April I will try to get on that in some way. I have too much to try and finish this month to do a game right now. However, as noted last month, I have been looking into this and working on ironing out problems that I had way back whenever.

Speaking of that, my plans for this month are as follows:

  1. Patreon mini-set
  2. At least one animation
  3. New DA stuff
  4. Redo/fix my Patreon page
  5. Winning contest entries’ images

Unless there is some other insane weather catastrophe or some other horrific incident that stalls my work somehow (again), I think I should be able to get most of this done this month, if not all of it. The first two items are the basic stuff that I need to do this month and the most important items. I think it has been a few months since I have posted new stuff on DA so I really need to do that after I take care of this month’s base content. The second item says “at least one” animation because I plan to make another simple walking animation, but possibly another, more complex one if the first doesn’t take too long and/or if I finish the contest winner images early. The reason that item number four is up there is that for whatever reason, Patreon is now changing the layout of creator pages; which means that I need to redo some stuff and make a new header image for my Patreon page. Allegedly this new layout goes live at the start of March whether you are ready for it (or even want it) or not, so I should probably just set it all up now and let it activate early. After that is the contest entry images, which will vary in difficulty. The main issue for the month is that I am not sure how long the 10-ish image set for the top contest entry will take, and that will likely be the sticking point here.

The few images for second place and one for third should be rather straightforward, but the first place entry is a bit more involved and should have water in it; which I have been relatively unsuccessful at rendering properly in Octane so far. (Theoretically I know what to set it to, but when I do that it doesn’t look right and either looks really fake or like an oil puddle; hopefully I just have to fiddle around with it some more to get it looking right.) The plan for these is to post all the contest entry images together as one post, so even if the first place entry goes into early next month I will wait to post the others until it is done. I also plan to ask the people who made the entries for basic feedback regarding the images I make before I post them, but I am not going to wait for a response if they do not get back to me in a week or so. (I also make no promises to act upon said feedback, but I likely will if it is reasonable and/or simple to fix.) These contest-related images will all be free for everyone, so that should be nice. In the mean time, check out the new polls and check back for some new content soon-ish.

New year, new polls, new plans?

Hey again. Happy new year and all that, if it is a bit late. I had a horrible weekend or I would have posted sooner. Anyway, two new polls are up now which relate to two of the things in the title of this post, but more on that in a bit. Before that, let me review the old polls. One poll asked what type of VN people preferred and most people definitely wanted the standard VN and/or a choose-your-own adventure style VN over the other choices. This is fine, as those were my top two choices/options anyway and will likely happen whenever I can get to that. The other poll was less productive; it asked what type of animation people wanted to see. Votes were low in both polls, but unfortunately this poll was one vote away from a complete three-way tie. So unfortunately I have no real direction in the animation department; but I will likely do at least one more basic walking animation before trying anything more complex. (No guarantees though.)

So all of this leads me to the next main point, and that is the idea I have been considering recently; about keeping my current two-month per main set schedule even once I get over all this health related crap just to give myself time to make other types of content. Since I can do more complex things now, and/or just make animations at all, I could use the offset month to make animations and/or some type of VN/game content. As I have mentioned before, making any type of game or even just working on a game would take time and effort that I used to not give myself back before this whole health fiasco started. I used to try and get out one story set per month back when I could actually work more; but that left no time for anything else.

As things have gone recently, I have needed two months to make a set just due to my physical limitations, which I am desperately hoping are soon coming to an end. So that hopefully being the case, I now have to consider whether or not to try and resume my old schedule in a couple months, or if I should keep things as they are and do other things as well. So the two polls up now are your way of possibly helping me decide this. One poll asks what your favorite type of content is, and the other asks whether or not you agree with my two-month per main set plan. (I.E. One month for making animations, working on games or whatever else, and the second month for the main set; then repeat.) Votes in these polls are rather important and would be greatly appreciated; though unless there is some strange outpouring against it, I currently plan to do the two month thing.

In regard to RTL 8, I am still working on it; but I have a terrible habit of going back to add/fix things which makes it take longer. (And as noted earlier, the past few days have been horrific and totally unproductive.) Also this is the first of what will surely be a few awkward transition sets in terms of me getting used to my new hardware. So just know that this set will not necessarily look like that much of an improvement compared to previous sets, as the main scene was made on my old computer and it seemed too good to throw out by the time the new one was ready. I have used this limited, old machine to make renders for almost nine months now and this new computer will take some getting used to, as many of my old limitations are now substantially higher than before; so I have to get back into my old mindset of actually creating larger scenes and more complex images, which I had been unable to do previously in Octane.

November polls review, new polls posted.

Hi again. So two new polls are up now, one asks which type of VN-like game idea you prefer most, and the other asks about possibilities for future animations. Keep in mind that the more complicated the item, the longer/less likely it is to happen overall. The animation I just posted was fairly easy to do because it is one character over a black background; there wasn’t much to complicate the render/animation process. Similarly, the more complex the VN idea, the longer it would take; much like my first game idea which would take a couple months of solid work, which is why I had to shelve it for the moment. (My new hardware may help this, but I don’t know yet; regardless, some sort of VN will almost certainly come first.) Previous polls discussion after the break.

October polls review, new polls up now, and current plans.

Hey. So the polls for October drew less votes than I was hoping, but the results were still somewhat clear. In the game poll, the majority of people seem to want me to stick with my current game idea. The other poll asked if I should stop giving out free stuff; obviously most people said no but a surprising number of people voted to just wait longer, which is actually a possibility. (This poll was mostly posted just to see if anyone actually read the polls or cared what they said, as votes in the polls have been dropping for whatever reason.) Two new polls are up now as well; one asks what kind of player character you prefer to play as in VNs, and the other asks if you prefer sci-fi, fantasy, or modern settings for adult stories/image sets/games. If you are interested in my current/future plans, I explain it after the break here.

Quick side note first: there is less than one week left in the contest, so get your entries in/fixed if you haven’t already!

Polls review, new polls, probable changes to some things.

Ok so first off the last set off polls was the worst yet in terms of votes; (a maximum of six) which is far from encouraging. I can only speculate that the topics were of no interest to most people; as one poll indicated that my current written previews are sufficient and/or that nobody reads them anyway (which is depressing) and the other poll was basically a three way tie as far as 7-zip goes, so I will just keep using it. If only two people care enough to say they don’t like it, then it can’t be that big of an issue.

There are two new polls up; they are likely to be the last polls for a while if nobody bothers to vote again. Perhaps the subjects of the new polls might draw people to actually vote this time, they will be up all month. I had a very large post that I was going to post instead of this one but I will instead summarize it: I really need and/or want more feedback, comments, votes, and preferably even support from all of you. If nobody tells me what they like and what they don’t like about my work, then I have no idea how to improve it. I can’t fix problems that nobody tells me about. If nobody wants to bother supporting my work, giving feedback, leaving comments, or even voting in the polls anymore, then it really makes me feel like I’m just feel like I’m wasting my time here making all these image sets. I at least get some positive reaction from most individual images that I post on DA. A little effort and/or appreciation goes a long way, people.

With no real feedback, I can only assume that the general lack of support is due to me giving most things out for free already; if the way I am doing things isn’t working, then something needs to change.  I already push the limits of what this limited machine can do with almost every render i make as it is. Sometimes I already have to split renders just to get everything I want in one image. I really want to work on this full time and make better and bigger image sets, but I need support or at the very least some feedback to help me do that. Comments and votes are free, so there really aren’t any good excuses for not doing those at the minimum. I am also likely to try opening up for commissions soon; and see if that helps out at all. If I didn’t like making all this stuff, then I wouldn’t be doing it; but I would at least like to know that people are enjoying what I make here.

Anyway, for the five of you that actually read this this far down, I am also seriously considering shelving my current game idea (for those of you that even know what that is; if you don’t then search my site for the old post I made a while back about it) in favor of small VNs. My current idea would take months of solid work (assuming that I was doing nothing else) to completely finish the way I want to and I cannot justify doing that (or just taking time to work on something that I will not finish in the foreseeable future unless I stop making regular sets) as things currently stand. (With seemingly no interest and no support.) Yes, I could do a crappy job to finish it quickly and then go back and put in more content later, but that is the worst way to make any game and generally a recipe for disaster.

Small VNs are much more within the realm of what I could do in a reasonable time-span, and would give my Patreon tiers more weight, in addition to likely extending main set exclusivity at the bare minimum. (The current game idea if done the way I planed would likely be at least 6 small VNs worth of work and scenes; and  then there is also the problem where some of the scenes that I initially planned to include in the game [back when I first came up with the idea nine months ago and didn’t have Octane] I can no longer do because of my limited hardware and Octane’s memory limits to consider as well.) Anyway, RTL 5 will get a free release in the next week or so, and RTL 7 will get done sometime this month; after that I am not sure what will happen anymore. Looking at the polls and this post, it should be clear what my plans are likely to be unless something changes.

The fog clears, poll updates!

Hi. It’s been a while since I’ve posted and so far things have actually been good. I can seriously feel the overall pain and the general depression from it going far away now. I am in no way joking when I say that two months of my life back there was and/or is just a foggy, vague memory of horrific pain and bed. I think it is definitely for the best that I don’t remember it clearly; (which is actually rather odd as I generally have a hard time forgetting things; especially things that I want to) although somehow RTL 6 was made during this time and I think it came out nicely.

Though in reality the pain could return at any time; at this moment I am effectively back to normal. If everything stays good, I am hoping that I will be able to do a main image set this month after all, and I have already started construction on the scene; and almost finished base scene construction really. (Patrons who have seen the full RTL 6 should know and/or be able to guess what it is going to be.) However, this whole week is really going to be devoted to Patreon stuff. (If you want to support me and my work and get in on future stuff like this, check out my Patreon page, https://www.patreon.com/redleatherart)

The polls there have ended and the special mini-story-set that won the poll was the Helenya and two imps option; so I will work on that, as well as the various Patreon previews that I need to post and the two anniversary images that I need to make; one for the site and one for Patreon. The site one will feature Zayla, and the Patreon one will feature Helenya; as voted in each poll. Preferably once all this crap gets done, I will see about RTL 7.

In other news, my short story contest is still going; (Check the tab up top!) if you want to see anything in particular from me, this is your chance. Allegedly a lot of you want to see futa/futa stuff; if that is the case I would expect at least a few entries focusing on that. The stories submitted can be no longer than five pages; but can be as short as one. (As in the actual story part can be one page, I still need/want the other two pages about the characters/sex scenario.) It is the general sexiness of the submissions that is what matters; not the length. Details can help, but they can also make something that is already bad much worse; so be careful and don’t overdo it. Submissions are accepted until 12:00 AM on October 7, 2015, EST, check the contest page up there for details.

Also, two new polls are up; one actually is asking about the format I use for my image archives (.7z, the 7-zip base format), which I recently realized/was told may be an issue for some people(?) so I wanted to check that. The other poll asks if you would prefer more or less textual details about my sets in the initial preview posts. So votes in those would be appreciated, and watch for various Patreon content this week and hopefully the anniversary image for the site later this week as well. Finally, I put all these social media buttons everywhere because apparently WordPress can do this and I had it enabled before but I forgot to put in the actual buttons. So if you like my work, an image, one of my posts, or even the contest page; please share it so people can find out about my work. (I think I did the buttons right, please let me know if I didn’t.)

August poll review, new special poll up now.

Hi. This will be quick; there were two polls all last month mostly due to me being injured. One asked about story arc length and the other asked about the sex/story balance in a comic. The sex/story balance landed squarely in the mostly sex area, which is fine as it is what I currently do anyway. The story arc one seemed to prefer longer story arcs; which I will take into consideration later on.

Anyway, here is one of the special things I wanted to do this month; a little special poll asking who you all want to see in a special anniversary image. (Maybe a mini-set if I magically get better mid month.) It will be up for two weeks so vote now and watch for more posts in the coming days about other cool stuff happening.

EDIT 9/3: After yesterday, I will say there is hope. Got dbl old strength meds, doing somewhat ok now for 2nd day in a row in two months, at least so far. RTL 6 story version is 1/4 done, if I stay good I may be able to finish it before patreon even finishes processing payments for last month. To those patrons that stayed, I appreciate your faith/support through this awful time. To those patrons that dropped; I can hardly blame you but it is still quite disappointing, especially considering all that you knew I was planning to do this month for patrons. I hope to post again tomorrow or the day after with something; either RTL 6 previews or the big thing for September.

EDIT 9/5: I am still doing mostly ok physically. RTL 6 story is over halfway done, the other big thing is basically entirely ready. I will try to get RTL 6 finished today if I can, tomorrow if not.
EDIT 9/6: RTL 6 is 80% done… I’m trying to finish it but my leg is acting up atm.

July polls review, new polls are up!

Hey. I put up two new polls, both relating to story this time. One asks how much sex and story you prefer in your adult comics, and the other asks how long you would prefer my story arcs be. For some context; the current story arc, Road to Lithorca, was planned to be around ten sets or so. It was also planned to be half story, half sex but it tipped into mostly sex with a bit of story after the first two chapters. (I thought that more exposition just wasn’t necessary after that.) So for the poll, think about how many non-sex pages (dialogue, story) you would want in a set and also how many sets total per arc.

As for the old polls; people seem to prefer huge adult VNs/games but there were also a good number of votes for average length and even small. Good to know, but huge games are just out of my league for now, small and normal are more reasonable/likely. in the other poll, people seemed to prefer Zayla’s bio which I figured would happen. Second place went to Karen, Third place was Lucia, and Fourth place was Helenya, and Fifth place was a tie between Salune and James. I am not at all surprised that Xan got no votes as his bio is small and vague for story reasons, plus he hasn’t really appeared in a major scene yet; I just put him in for completeness. I was fairly surprised that James got a vote; I figured that nobody would ever vote for one of the guys no matter how good the bio was, but it was nice to see that someone liked it. Considering that almost everyone else got a vote, it was surprising that Tabitha didn’t get any this time; but considering the other options it makes sense. Karen getting second place was also somewhat surprising for me; I had guessed Lucia or Helenya. I don’t have whys for any of these votes, so any attempts to explain who placed where would just be speculation. (If anyone wants to explain the reason for their vote in a comment, that would be great.) Regardless, it is really nice to know that the bios are read and appreciated.

Anyway, please vote in the new polls and I hope to post again in a few days with the free release of RTL chapter three; for now, I have a lot to work on.

EDIT 8/4: I had a good day today for the first time in quite a while; I managed to get the first half of the scene construction done. So things are looking better so far.

July special poll result, status update

Hi. So the special poll is over and option two won out; that option being Tabitha and Salune. I will work on that next, and the other two options will be used after this one. It is nice to see the the other options got votes as well, so watch for those a bit later. Also, two new polls are up now, One asks how long you prefer your adult VNs/games to be, and the other asks which of my character bios you like best. Please note this is NOT asking which character you like best visually/physically, but from a story/background/details standpoint.

In other news I have been rather sick the past few days and have gotten nothing much done at all, especially on this project. I have no idea how long this will continue, and it may force me to push back the next main image set a bit; we shall see. I will do the best that I can but things have not been going well these last few days and due to this, I am behind already as far as my usual schedule goes. Hopefully thing will get better soon, but there is nothing I can do about this right now. Please vote in these new polls as well and I will post again once I have some progress made somewhere. (Or if it has been a week or so just to check in.)

EDIT 7/20: I finished the DA image(s) a few hours ago and finally posted them. So now I can work on the main image set if my health cooperates.

UPDATE 7/24: I have just posted the early Patreon preview image for this upcoming chapter, it will be posted here in a few days in a new post. The next chapter will almost certainly be pushed back into next month due to lost time from my illness. More on that when I post the preview publicly. Also, the current polls have been extended into mid next month; as this chapter likely won’t be done until sometime into next month and I would like as many votes in these polls as possible. (The bio one especially, please vote if you haven’t; votes are still rather low for whatever reason.)

New special poll now open, old polls review.

Hi again. I have posted the new special poll, which is unlike any other previous special poll I have done. In this poll, there are no real losers per se; all three of these scenarios will happen, you just get to decide which one you want to see first! There are three options given, along with working titles for each scene. Whichever option wins the poll will be done this month, the other two will still happen; but in the coming months. You should be able to guess how each scene will go more or less with one possible exception. The third scene features Xan, a newer permanent character that was just introduced in RLA chapter two; which I just posted as a free release in the post below. He is a master of nature magic, specifically conjuring and summoning magics. If the last big monster poll results are to be believed, most of you will love this character. Check his bio on my characters page if you like, I just added it. This new special poll will be up for two weeks so get voting and spread the word! Old poll reviews after the break below.

Quick note to my Patrons, in case you missed the message I sent out earlier, Patreon is still sorting out the weird payment problems they had yesterday and payments usually take up to 48 hours to process anyway so I am going to wait a bit to send out rewards and such to give that time to go through. If your payment was declined or having issues, make sure you payment method is correct and wait for Patreon to re-process it. If you still have problems, send them a support message.

EDIT 7/4: Patreon rewards for last month have been sent to those with cleared payments, If you have any problems let me know.
